Almost a year

It really is hard to believe that we are just about 1 month out from our anniversary in the house.  When we decided to jump into this; i.e. sell the old house, build a new, I was worried that at some point I would regret it.  We had to take a loan to cover the difference in the old house sale, our new house payment jumped up with the new.
But you know what?  I don't have any regrets.  "Money well spent" I believe is the term here.  In fact, paying less for something I was no longer happy with was the money wasted.

So here we are.  Our ten month was completed in whole.  Ryan did a great job.  They installed that new hose bib on the back of the house.  They fixed the wavy/bunched flashing on the porch.  And of course they fixed numerous nail pops.

My wife has every intention to increase our holiday decorations every year.  But for now, she is happy with a decorated fireplace mantel and some lights and decoration on the front porch.

So go forth fellow Ryan home owners.  Live your holiday....assuming we make it past the end of the world.  I got a box of MRE's and several gallons of water just in case.  And bullets...don't think about trying to get my MRE's, I love them things!

  1. Have you received a recall notice on your fireplace? We're only 7 months in, but all of the fireplace owners in our development have received recall notices with a long wait time for repairs and a warning not to use them in the interim, right before Christmas. Booo!!!

    1. We received the recall notice. I was able to get it fixed within a week. I called the day I got the notice and was able to get on the schedule immediately. The repair itself only took 10 minutes, but it took another 35 minutes to get the remote programmed with the new control panel.

I can't believe we've been in this long, either! It still feels like a great surprise to wake up every day in our new home!

  3. We are right there with you, coming up on our 1 year anniversary. Definitely worth the plunge and we don't regret our decision. We too, have received the recall - they were here for our 10 month check up so he replaced it. Now we have to get them back out because of a different issue, but they seem very responsive.

    Happy Holidays.

  4. we got the letter for the fireplace. It appears I do not fall in the range but I still plan to call and get them out. We have never felt positive the flame height was right. We have 3 settings (low, medium, and high) and it has to be on high to even look like a fire is going.

    1. I'm surprised you are not in the range because I thought we had the same unit. We have exactly the same problem, by the way. Even with the highest setting it doesn't seem like much of a blaze.

  5. This is so frustrating -- we called the day we received the notice as well. Our PM said they don't fix them; only the fireplace company will fix them. We're still waiting. We use our fireplace a lot, too, because we have a great room and those high ceilings are hard to heat!

    1. It is the same for us. We are waiting for a Monessen-approved dealer to come out and replace the control board, but they are apparently waiting for a part. This is, of course, a crappy time of year to get anything done at all.

  6. Check your book, but the company that installed the fireplace should be listed on the contractor list.

  7. I have the fireplace company coming out tomorrow to check the operation. I have never been convinced that it burns at the right height. It seems such a dinky little flame and that's with it on "high". Seems if you will offer a product with three settings, it will have a flame worthy of those settings. If I have it on anything but "High", you can't see the damn flame unless you are right up on the fireplace.
As for the recall, I looked and it appears mine does not fall in the range. But even if it did, I would still use it until they fixed it. But that's me.

    1. When they came and worked on ours, they adjusted the flame and added more rockwool - which I guess gives it a glowing effect. They said that it will wear out over time so they gave us a small baggy of it but I guess we will need to buy more eventually.
