A temparary solution - Pallet Shoe Rack

So if you are like us, you have been taking your shoes off in the garage before walking into your new house.  This means that darn near all my shoes reside in the garage.  I don't mean to be lazy, buy why take them up to the closet so I can bring them back down tomorrow morning.
This means that we have a decent pile of shoes at the door to deal with.  I have plans to build a modular storage cabinet with a shoe cubby at the bottom, but until then....this could work.
This is my pallet I cut in half with plans this weekend to turn it into a rolling shelf rack.  Until then, it makes a damn fine shoe rack.

I am adding this because I like it so much.  It's from Rev-a-Shelf.  I will have to look into the cost, because this rocks!

  2. these are both great functional ideas. I even think I would keep the pallet shoe thing, just tweak it a bit to be permanent. Maybe wall mount it and put some soft rubber tubing on the edges that touch the shoe tips, coat hooks on the edges outside of the shoe holding part, hell...even stain it. Typically people will put one of those mudroom bench/coat hook pieces, and that would work if it were interior, but if you have a full house like we do, that would be chaos in the first week.

    1. This price is the lowest I could find on the pot rack

  3. Steve, you read my mind. I am working on modifying a pallet to mount on the wall. Makes sweeping very easy. There are a couple ways to do it. I am thinking of running french cleat boards along the back wall for modularity. If I add a french cleat to the back of a pallet, it will hang securely but allow me to move/remove when I want. The paint/stain is something we have considered as well when working on a small pallet coat rack we have.
I did not think of the rubber tubing for shoe protection....hmmmmmmmm

  4. Nice racks! The Rev-a-Shelf pot rack is awesome, but the cheapest I found it in a quick search was $149.

  5. The cleat idea is solid. If you guys ever decided not to use the shoe thing you could then hang other things from the cleat or use the pallet mount for other storage with hooks attached like garden hose, extension cords, etc

  6. Well aren't you just industrious!? All I want to do after this week is find a doctor willing to put me into a medically induced coma.

I love the pallet shoe rack! I am a fan of repurposing.
